Our Mission

The Ossabaw Island Foundation, through a public-private partnership with the State of Georgia, inspires, promotes, and manages exceptional educational, cultural, and scientific programs that are designed to maximize the experience of Ossabaw Island, while minimizing the impact on its resources.

Our Plan

Our plan is to reestablish Ossabaw as a Conservation Station and to enhance the Heritage Preserve so that it can benefit teachers and learners of all ages. In its undeveloped state, Ossabaw is an irreplaceable resource, a monument to the values preserved by the responsible conservation of ecologically significant lands. The island is an attractive destination for teachers and learners of all ages and cultures, an offshore sanctuary where life's record of enchantments will inspire scholarship and reflection for generations to come. We need your help to keep it this way.

Why Does Ossabaw Matter?

The island is a living museum of Georgia coastal history. It is a laboratory for studying change over time, a rare ecological system for teaching us about the carrying capacity of coastal lands and the limits of acceptable change facing communities along the eastern seaboard. Ossabaw is everyone's opportunity to preserve a priceless parcel of American heritage at a time when so much open space has been surrendered to development. It is an enduring gift to generations of teachers and learners who will look to the past to understand better how to manage resources in a crowded future.
